Did you always want to be an author?

Actually, I have never considered it, but I have always been a writer. I started off writing poetry, small little haikus, and stories. I then went on to write music, but I never considered being an author. Going through this type of transition and starting off as a children’s author was a surprise for me, but it was all a part of God’s plan for my life.

What made you want to write a children’s book?

When I was pregnant with my son, I knew I had to start thinking bigger than what was in the “now”. I knew that I wanted to leave something for my children in terms of a legacy, but also something positive and good associated with my name. When my child was born, I wanted them to be able to listen to a story written by their mother. The momma-bear in me and the transition to motherhood is what made me want to write a book.

What was the writing process like for your first book?

Writing come really easy to me, so one day I just thought about the idea of this little brown girl named, Coco Brown. I don’t know why the name popped in my head, but I said “Oh, well, I will just write a little story about her.” I sat down to write and was done with the book in about 30 minutes. I thought that I might be on to something here! The right connections came onto my path and now I am a published author who is selling my little character, Coco Brown! I have had the opportunity to be on the news, contacted by various industries, interviews, and media situations regarding Coco Brown. The story is very impactful, especially to the culture and every community. It actually has opened up a lot of doors and I will continue to promote the message. The message is about loving ourselves and being happy and content in how God created us to be. I feel like getting that message to and planting those seeds in younger children will help them to grow into better adults. I wish I had this message spoken into my life growing up. I am looking forward to what’s next and I am excited about it all!
